So the coaching note for today is about a concept that I hope gives you a little depth to your journey.
Imagine a tightrope walker. Someone who does this for a living.
Say he’s working on this goal above of walking between the Twin Towers (RIP).
The tightrope walker starts out strong. He’s confident and aligned and steady. He’s doing what it takes. He walks out to the middle without wobbling even once.
Now imagine what would happen if the tightrope walker gets to the middle of the rope and starts to think thoughts like:
“Oh, uh oh, I don’t know if I can finish this.”
“I’m probably going to fall.”
“I’ve fallen before, I don’t know if I can avoid falling now.”
“I’m not good at this.”
“I don’t know what I need to do. I’m so confused.”
What type of results do you think he’s going to have on that tightrope in that moment?
He’s going to psych himself out and start wobbling and fall.
But say, if in the middle of those thoughts, he can start to pull himself together and start thinking:
“No, stop. You’ve done this a million times.”
“Stop thinking like that, that’s silly.”
“I’ve done this distance a hundred times at home a few feet from the ground. This really is the same thing.”
“I’ve got this. I know exactly what to do.”
“I’m not going to indulge in panic. I’m going to be clear-headed and do what I know.”
Imagine what types of results he might get after that moment.
Now imagine the tightrope walking is a metaphor for your Nutritarian or weight-loss journey.
If you’re doing well, knowing what you have to do, going about your business and getting great results, but then you start thinking thoughts of:
“Oh I’m just a binger though. I can never do this for more than _____ weeks.”
“I know I’ll just end up failing.”
“I always overeat when I go to _______ event. I’ll never be able to resist.”
“I’m so confused, I don’t know what to do.”
You can see where that would lead you. Right?.
Take a moment to think about this. Do you have thoughts like this on your own journey? Where do they usually lead you?
The point of this story isn’t to NOT have those thoughts. It’s to be able to tell when you’re having them and turn them around, knowing that you know enough RIGHT NOW to be successful forever.
