If you want to make these ahead, store in airtight bag freezer before party. Note: I used vegan ingredients when I made mine, but feel free to use whatever you prefer. There are alternatives on Amazon to the traditional food coloring I show in the video.

Serves: 5-6 tightly packed shot glasses
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cups marshmallows
  • 3 cups puffed rice cereal such as Rice Krispies
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • Red and blue food coloring (see headnote for natural alternative)
  • 6 3-ounce bathroom cups
  • 1 2-ounce tall shot glass
Instructions
  1. For the Rice Krispie Treat "batter":
  2. In a heavy bottomed saucepan, heat the butter over low-medium heat. Stir in the marshmallows and heat and stir until they are fully melted.
  3. Work quickly through the next steps, so the marshmallow mixture doesn't cool off too much. In 2 separate bowls, add ⅓ of the marshmallow mixture, leaving the rest in the pan. Add desired amount of red food coloring to one bowl and mix well with a spoon. Repeat with the other bowl and the blue food coloring. Add 1 cup of rice cereal to each bowl, including the original pan, and mix in the cereal well.
  4. Once mixed, allow to cool for about 5 minutes.
  5. To Form the Shot Glasses:
  6. Use soft vinyl gloves if preferred. Coat gloves (or bare hands) with non-savory flavored oil, like coconut oil or canola oil. (Just not olive oil!)
  7. Grab a meatball sized amount of blue rice krispie treat mixture and flatten into the bottom of one 3-ounce bathroom cup, with about ¼ inch coming up the side.
  8. Insert the shot glass into the bathroom cup and press down to pack the rice krispie treat mixture on the bottom. Pack in some of the white rice krispie treat mixture around the shot glass and on top of the blue line so it forms a solid line design and doesn't have many holes. I packed mine really tightly, but you may choose to pack more lightly. Repeat for the red layer on top and pack nicely around the top.
  9. Place the shots in the freezer.
  10. For the waterproof white-chocolate coating:
  11. Create a makeshift double-boiler for this step (or look for microwaving tutorials online) by using a large saucepan and a smaller glass bowl that will fit tightly on top. (See my YouTube video for visual) Add about 1 inch of water into the saucepan and bring to a rolling boil. Carefully, place the glass bowl on top of the pan so it will start to warm up. Use an oven mitt to handle the bowl apparatus so you don't scorch yourself with escaping steam or hot glass.
  12. Add the chocolate chips into the glass bowl. Stir until fully melted. Remove all from heat.
  13. Using a small spoon, add about 1-2 teaspoons of melted white chocolate into the rice krispie cups. Using the back of the spoon, coat the inside of the cups evenly so there are no visible holes. Place cups in the freezer when they are coated to harden and leave them there until ready to use.
  14. I find it works best if you keep them in a ziplock back so they don't absorb freezer smells or tastes.
