This is the most famous “hair of the dog” cocktail. That term refers to drinking a shot of what poisoned you the night before so as to make the hangover go away. It comes from the old-school idea of curing yourself from the bite of a rabid dog by placing some of his hair in your wound. Sounds more like a great way to spread bacteria and get a staph infection, but whatever. Anyway, this is a great savory drink that goes well with regular brunch-type meals or anything once you’ve had enough of them.
Bloody Mary Recipe
Ingredients:
1 1/4 oz. Vodka
2 1/2 oz. Tomato Juice
dash Worcestershire Sauce
dash Tabasco Sauce
dash Salt and Pepper
Celery Stalk and Orange Slice for garnish
Pour Vodka over ice in a glass. Fill with Tomato Juice. Add a dash or two of Worcestershire Sauce and Tabasco Sauce. (A “dash” is defined as 1/32nd of an ounce-ish. This is just for flavoring so do not go overboard.) Stir and garnish with a Celery Stalk and/or an Orange Slice. For those who enjoy their Bloody Marys extremely spicy, add more Tabasco!
I CAN’T stop thinking about the bloody mary I had at 13 in New Orleans….the one at the Blacksmith bar was great too….I know they put a pickled string bean in but I’m wondering if you have some free time if you’d be able to find a recipe like that incorporating my cherished string bean? I googled ‘best bloody mary’ in NYC and the one at Prune came up…next time I’m in the city I’m going to give it a whirl. In the meantime, I want that string bean bloody mary!!
I never had a Bloody Mary there but I did get one of their coffee daiquiris after tasting what Alex got. You were getting ready for the wedding then. It was AMAZINGGGG. :D
Oh we went back Saturday night and I tried Julie’s coffee-thing. It was AMAZING. An alcoholic frappucino heavenly dessert. While that was amazing, I’m STILL haunted by that divine bloody mary!
I use V8 for my Bloody Marys and a spicy Sriracha Salt I make. But this one looks awesome as well.
