Bee's Knees Cocktail Recipe

When you’re dating a really great guy, you wanna take care of him, ya know?

The boyfriend Andres usually orders a gin and tonic when we go out salsa dancing every weekend. It’s his drink. I remember the time he faked me out to quench my thirst by telling me to his drink his water…and of course after I took a huge swig, I found out it was not quite the water I was hoping for.

Whenever I run low on my drink, I’m always tempted to take a sip of his, but every time I do, I regret it. I mean, I guess I’m just not the gin type. So I thought I’d find a new drink for him that we could BOTH enjoy. (See how this works?)

When I get to choose a drink, I generally opt for something a little more….say…girly! Like a White Russian, or a hard Eggnog Shot when the time is right. I even delight in making up crazy ways to drink them too, like How to Take a Shot Like a Boss which is a great party trick!! HA!!

So this drink, it was said to have been created originally in the Prohibition Era in order to cover up the smell of the alcohol. And I don’t know if it worked, but it definitely didn’t taste too strong or “ginny” for my tastes – and as I said, I’m not a huge fan of gin! It’s refreshing and light, perfect for spring or summer or a night indoors with the heat cranked up in the winter. Pretend you’re on a beach, okay? Or hell, I’ll go there for you and suck one down myself real quick, it’ll be EXACTLY like you’re there!! :P

If you don't have a cocktail shaker, just mix all ingredients in a glass with ice, stir it around until it gets cold, and strain into a fresh glass with fresh ice to serve. Pro Tip: I added pomegranate juice the third time I made this and that was also awesome!

  • 1 ounce honey syrup (mix ½ ounce honey + ½ ounce water)
  • juice of ½ lemon
