Happy Friday 5 O’Cocktail! How I’ve missed you all!! Let’s talk about my RNC Hurricane Cocktail – how clever! *rolls her eyes*
As I’m sure you’ve heard, we’ve got some excitement going on down here in good old Florida. Other than the pre-scheduled attack of Republicans occurring next week known as the Republican National Convention, we’re bracing ourselves for nature’s fury as Tropical Storm Isaac makes his way around to our sweet home state. Who knows whether it will turn into a hurricane, but we know we’ll at least get a pretty good set of thunderstorms to welcome him along, so we’re getting ready. Tamas is making a special trip to the store tomorrow to stock up on some water and other emergency things. And I thought it was completely rational and appropriate that I should post a special RNC Hurricane Cocktail recipe to celebrate with in the comfort of your own home!
So I chose the aptly named cocktail The Hurricane, which originally comes from the 1940s in a New Orleans tavern owned by Pat O’Brien. At that time, rum wasn’t a popular type of alcohol, so he would use a lot of it in this cocktail to try to get rid of it! So take it easy with these; too much could cause you to altogether forget about the RNC or the approaching tropical storm!
Note: You could also make this recipe using Pat O’Brien’s sour mix, for which I have included an affiliate link below if you want to buy it from Amazon!
RNC Hurricane Cocktail
2 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1 Tablespoon simple syrup
1 Tablespoon grenadine
Garnish: orange slice and cherry
Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail mixer filled with ice. Strain into a hurricane glass full of ice. Garnish with the orange slice and cherry. And a paper umbrella if you’re feeling cutesy!
ORRR you can go the easy route and just buy the mixer below and add rum according to the package directions!
